Charlie Zha is Manager of Asset Management at BW ESS, where he oversees project commissioning, lifecycle performance, contract governance and regulatory compliance across a growing portfolio of utility-scale grid-connected BESS assets in the National Electricity Market. A Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, NER, RPEQ, RPEV, IntPE(Aus)) with 15+ years across BESS, SCADA and control systems, he authored BW ESS’s Asset Management Plan, preventive and proactive maintenance programs, Standard Operating Procedures, and cyber and business-continuity frameworks that now govern the portfolio.
Before BW ESS, Charlie was Senior BESS Utility Integration Engineer at Tesla Energy, leading SCADA design, grid connection and commissioning across 775+ MW / 1,550+ MWh of Australian projects — including Neoen Western Downs, CS Energy Greenbank, CS Energy Chinchilla, and Akaysha Energy Brendale. He designed the first Tesla APAC HMI template, later adopted as Tesla’s global BESS standard. His earlier career spans Jemena (OT/SCADA operations and optimisation), Yokogawa, and automation leadership on Tesla’s Model 3 assembly line at the Fremont factory.
Charlie holds TÜV Functional Safety Engineer (SIS) certification and is certified in SOCI and AESCSF cybersecurity compliance.
