David Shirley is the Emerging Technology Lead within AGL’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) business unit. In this role, he focuses on identifying, evaluating and scaling emerging energy solutions that support business customers’ diverse objectives, with a strong emphasis on innovation, decarbonisation and long-term product performance & reliability in challenging applications/environments. As a strategic thinker, David has built a reputation for helping translate emerging technologies into practical business opportunities. As the C&I BESS subject matter expert at AGL, David is currently supporting a pipeline of Commercial and Industrial BESS projects nationwide, providing technical due diligence across community social enterprise and government, as well as expertise in strategic EV fleet electrification, major projects and VPP integrations.
David’s contributions over 17 years in renewable energy R&D and development sectors include as former Director of Engineering (developer) on the METZ solar farm. As an engineering product lead, David established grassroots technologies for both concentrated solar (RayGen Resources) and battery/inverter production facilities (Selectronic), including leading multidisciplinary teams in Australia and delivering innovative BESS & LDES technologies both locally and overseas. David’s other contributions include multiple collaborations with RACE2030 on cybersecurity and strategic EV chargers.
